Sheffield is full of incredible spots to film or photograph, and as a video production company with a decade of experience, we’ve scouted the very best locations for shoots that scream “this is Sheffield!”
Whether you’re shooting a promo, corporate video or short film, these spots will make locals stop and say, “that’s Sheffield, innit?”
Park Hill Flats
Arguably Sheffield’s most iconic landmark, Park Hill Flats is impossible to miss when arriving at the train station. Its bold, bright colour scheme and dramatic slopes make it perfect for creative, eye-catching shots.
Built between 1957 and 1961, Park Hill reflects both the city’s history and its ongoing transformation. Its scale and urban aesthetic have made it a popular filming spot for productions like Doctor Who, How to Talk to Girls at Parties and The Full Monty.
OHP practical tip: The flats are just a stone’s throw from the city centre, offering multiple angles and perspectives to show off Sheffield’s unusual architecture.
We’ve used Park Hill for numerous shoots, including a recent project with 1625 Outreach, to highlight the contrast of brutalist architecture with Sheffield’s creative energy.

Kelham Island & Kelham Island Museum
For gritty, urban, industrial charm, Kelham Island is a must visit, not only for video shooting but also if you’re just a tourist visiting the city for the day.
Cobbled streets, old warehouses, graffiti walls and riverside sections (you name it, Kelham Island has it) create endless opportunities for cinematic shots. Inside, the Kelham Island Museum – originally an iron foundry from the 1890s – features a Bessemer converter and a quaint “little mesters” street set, providing historical authenticity for your shoot.
This location is a perfect mix of rustic, derelict and modern spaces, ideal for creative promos, music videos or documentary-style shoots. Anything really!

Sheffield Amphitheatre
If panoramic city views are what you need, the Sheffield Amphitheatre delivers (and then some). A short walk from both the train station and Park Hill Flats, it offers wide-angle shots that capture Sheffield’s skyline, modern architecture and the stunning surrounding hills.
It’s perfect for time-lapses of sunrise or sunset, establishing shots, or outdoor interviews. The location has also been used in The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold, proving its cinematic appeal.
In the spring, this outdoor space transforms thanks to being one of South Yorkshire’s hotspots for cherry blossom. The delicate pink and white blooms create a stunning, almost ethereal backdrop that’s perfect for cinematic shots, promo videos or even social media content.
Combine this seasonal colour with the sweeping views of good old Sheff, and you have a unique contrast of nature and urban landscape that really makes your footage stand out from the crowd.

The Botanical Gardens
Looking for greenery and symmetry? Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens, established in 1836, provide a stunning natural backdrop. Glass pavilions near the entrance add historical charm, while well-maintained lawns, trees and seasonal colours make it versatile for all types of shoots.
Whether it’s interviews, cinematic sequences or aesthetic promo content, the gardens offer a location that feels both grand and welcoming. HBO’s The Regime even used it for one of their episodes, showing its appeal for high-profile productions. Crazy right?
